Hair Care Guide
Hair Care Guide
Good hair deserves a little love. Look after your Hair by Ora hair properly and it will stay soft, smooth and beautiful for much longer. Here’s how.
Every day
Sleep in a satin bonnet or scarf, or on a satin pillowcase. Cotton creates friction, which is one of the main causes of tangling and frizz in fibre hair. Keep products light: a fine mist of water mixed with a little leave-in conditioner keeps the hair soft. Avoid heavy oils and thick creams, which coat the fibre, attract dirt and leave it looking dull and weighed down.
Washing your extensions (braids)
With braids, the focus is your scalp, not the hair. Dilute a sulphate-free shampoo in a spray bottle, apply it directly to your scalp between the braids, massage gently, and rinse with lukewarm water, letting it run down the braids. Squeeze out the excess water and let everything dry completely, because damp braids left too long can develop an odour.
Washing your bundles
Wash every one to two weeks, or when the hair feels heavy with product. Detangle gently with a wide-tooth comb first, starting from the ends and working upward. Wash in cool to lukewarm water, never hot, using a mild sulphate-free shampoo and smoothing it downward rather than scrubbing in circles. Follow with a light conditioner, leave it for a few minutes and rinse thoroughly. Squeeze out the water with a towel instead of rubbing, and let it air-dry fully.
Heat and styling
Only ever use low heat, and always test on a small hidden section first. Hot water setting, flexi rods and braid-outs are the safest ways to change the shape of the hair, and they’ll keep it looking its best for longer. Avoid blow-drying on high heat entirely.
Caring for your texture
Straight hair stays sleek and glossy with gentle combing and a light mist of leave-in. Waves and curls look best when they’re finger-detangled and refreshed with a little water and a leave-in conditioner, then left to air-dry. Avoid brushing curly textures when they’re dry, since that’s what causes frizz.
Storing your bundles between wears
Make sure the hair is clean and completely dry, comb it out gently, then loosely tie or plait it. Store it in a satin bag or its original packaging, away from heat and direct sunlight.
How long will it last?
Braiding extensions are designed for one install and usually look their best for 4 weeks. Bundles, with the care above, can be reused across 2 installs. It’s time to replace your hair when it mats in a way that won’t comb out, feels rough even after conditioning, or loses its shine and movement.
